Who we are
Operations World (operationsworld.com) is an online publication for operations, facility, and fleet professionals. This page explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have a privacy question, contact us through our Contact Us page — we do not publish an email address to protect against spam and scraping.
What we collect and why
Comments. When you leave a comment on an article, we collect the name and email address you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser information, which help us detect spam. If you use the Gravatar service, an anonymized hash of your email address may be shared with Gravatar to display your profile picture next to your approved comment. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
Contact, advertising, and press release forms. When you submit one of our forms, we collect your name, email address, subject, and message, and use them only to respond to your enquiry and manage any resulting business relationship. We do not add form submitters to a marketing list.
Accounts. Registration is open on this site. If you register, we store the information in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your profile information at any time (usernames cannot be changed). Website administrators can also view and edit profile information.
Cookies. We and WordPress use cookies that are needed for the site to work and be secure, including login and screen-preference cookies for registered users, and — if you choose the opt-in on the comment form — a cookie that remembers your comment details for one year so you do not have to re-enter them. Our security and caching tools may also set technical cookies to protect the site and improve loading speed. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site, such as logging in, may not work properly if you do.
Analytics and third-party services. We use site tools provided by Google (Google Site Kit) and security, backup, and caching services to understand readership in aggregate, keep the site secure, and keep it running. Where analytics is enabled, those providers may collect information such as pages visited, approximate location, device, and browser, in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal information.
Embedded content. Articles may include embedded content from other websites (for example, videos or images). Embedded content behaves as if you visited that website directly, and that website may collect data about you and use its own cookies and tracking.
Media. If you upload images to the site, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Who we share your data with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run this site (such as hosting, security, and spam-detection services) and when required by law. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
How long we keep your data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments. Form submissions are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and our business records. Registered users’ profile information is kept while the account exists.
Your rights
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and you can request that we erase it. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To make a request, contact us through our Contact Us page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when new features are added. The current version will always be posted on this page with the date it was last updated.
